How to Decorate a Cake with Strawberries?

crumblemumble, September 27, 2024September 27, 2024
Want to recreate those pretty strawberry cake decorations? Here’s how to decorate a cake with strawberries in 7 simple ways!

Strawberries look downright gorgeous and pretty on cakes. The red and pink color instantly lifts up your cake’s design. And let’s not forget all those Pinterest-aesthetic designs you can make with these berries!

But if you’re a beginner, know that decorating a cake with strawberries is not as simple as it seems. Once you actually get down to the task, you will notice how difficult it is to cut them the right way or recreate the cake vision in your mind.

This is exactly why I have compiled today’s guide. Here’s how to decorate a cake with strawberries in 7 simple ways + bonus tips on cutting strawberries and perfecting the decoration!

7 Simple Ways to Decorate a Cake with Strawberries

  1. Simple Strawberry Flower Ring

The easiest cake decoration you can make with strawberries is this flower ring. All you have to do is cut the strawberries into thin slices. Then, separate them according to their sizes.

Take the biggest slices and create the outer ring. Once done, use slightly smaller strawberry slices to create another ring inside the first one. Make sure the strawberries alternate each other so that they look like a flower.

Continue until there’s just enough space left in the center to put a strawberry upside down.

  2. Chocolate & Strawberries

This is a classic combo that we all love to eat ala carte. Even if they are put on a cake, most of us pick them out and eat them before even cutting the cake!

And the best part? They can be used to decorate your cake in different ways. The most popular method is chocolate-covered strawberries. Here’s how it looks:

You just dip the strawberries in chocolate, let it dry, and then place them around the cake border. You can use different colored chocolates to create unique looks.

Another method is to make a mound of strawberries and chocolates in the center of the cake. Or, you can place them strategically to create a design of your choice.

  3. Strawberries with Icing Sugar

A simple and minimal version of strawberry cake decoration is to place the strawberries upside down in the center and sprinkle them with icing sugar. This looks really pretty and cute – especially on minimalistic cakes.

  4. Floral Berry Border

If you have strawberries and flowers, you can also make a floral berry border. Cut the strawberries in half and place them on one side of the cake. You can also place whole strawberries in between to add texture and style.

Once the arrangement looks good, place small artificial flowers in between to fill the gaps and add that beautiful floral touch. You can also add blueberries and raspberries to the design.

  5. Strawberry and Kiwi Combo

Green and pink look absolutely cute together. So, if you want to give your cake a cute yet popping appearance, do try decorating it with strawberries and kiwi.

Simply, first, create a border with your preferred frosting. Then, place whole strawberries along the inside of your cream border. Now, slice your kiwi thinly and place it in the center. Add some sprinkles or a topper to complete the look.

  6. Strawberry Grid

Looking for another simple style to decorate a cake with strawberries? Well, use the star nozzle to create a grid from whipped cream. You can also use buttercream if it’s stabilized enough.

Then, pick out the best strawberries from the box and place them individually in the grid. Make sure they are facing one direction to create a uniform and professional look.

  7. Strawberry Mount

Strawberry mounts are used to add a rustic and vintage effect to cakes. First, you chop a lot of strawberries into small cubes and place them in the center. Now, place whole strawberries on top of it to create the mount. You can chop a few of them for more texture.

How to Decorate a Sheet Cake with Strawberries?

A square or rectangle cake is tricky enough for frosting. But when you want to decorate it with strawberries, it gets even trickier. How do you decorate it in an aesthetic way? Well, here are some ideas I personally enjoy:

  1. Strawberry Clusters

Grab a star-shaped piping nozzle and decorate the borders of your sheet cake. Then, cut the strawberries in half and place them in clusters at each corner. Add sprinkles and flowers to improve the look.

  2. Strawberry & Chocolate Combo

Similar to round cakes, strawberry and chocolate looks great on sheet cakes too. You can either dip your strawberries in chocolate or arrange them separately on the top. Use different nozzles to add an artistic touch.

  3. Fruity Border

If you have blueberries, raspberries, kiwi, and other fruits available, use them to create a fruity border on your sheet cake. Write a text in the center to complete the design.

  4. Symmetrical Grid

This is a unique design that I came across during my search. If you’re someone who loves symmetry and grids, you can try recreating this. Start by dividing your strawberries into two sections; plain and chocolate covered ones.

Then, add chocolate drip to your sheet cake. Let the drip set for 5 minutes. Once it’s stable, use the chocolate-covered strawberries to create a rectangle on top of the sheet cake. Follow this using plain strawberries and alternate the pattern until the whole top is covered.

Tips for the Perfect Strawberry Cake Decoration!

Now, before you go, let me share some super useful tips for perfecting your strawberry decorations. Firstly, always use a fresh batch of strawberries that has been washed and dried thoroughly. This helps create a more aesthetic look.

Secondly, never put strawberries directly onto the cake sponge. The cake will absorb the strawberry’s moisture, which will make everything soggy. So, to avoid this issue, spread a thin layer of frosting and decorate your strawberries on top of it.
